Fed: No conscience vote on IVF caucus

Opposition Leader KIM BEAZLEY says the Labor caucus has decided to hold the line on
IVF and no conscience vote will be allowed on any federal legislation.

He's told reporters they did so in the context where it was clearly illustrated that
this would, under the rules of the party, be a binding decision on caucus.

Some MPs had called for a conscience vote on Prime Minister JOHN HOWARD'S plans to
allow states to ban single women and lesbians from in-vitro fertilisation programs.

The caucus vote was seen as a test of Mr BEAZLEY'S leadership.
