FED: Court says Senate health inquiry won t satisfy premiers

West Australian Premier RICHARD COURT says the Senate inquiry into public hospital funding
won't satisfy the states' demands for an independent inquiry.

The Senate decided yesterday that a committee chaired by former Labor minister ROSEMARY
CROWLEY would inquire into public hospitals and report by next year.

But Mr COURT says premiers and chief ministers want an inquiry without political
prejudices.

Last month they called for an inquiry by the Productivity Commission, but Prime Minister
JOHN HOWARD refused.
