Fed: Greens demand $30pw pension increase to single seniors

The Australian Greens are demanding an immediate 30 dollar a week increase in the pension
for singles .. saying struggling seniors can't wait for a government investigation to
be finalised.

The Rudd government has ordered a review of the age pension .. carer payment and disability
support pension as part of its wider inquiry into the tax system.

But any action will have to wait until at least February .. when results of the review
are delivered to Community Services Minister JENNY MACKLIN.

The Greens want the single pension lifted to 606 dollars 80 a fortnight .. 66 per cent
of the couple rate.

Senator RACHEL SIEWERT says pensioners should not be forced to wait and live below
the poverty line.
